Using Claude for automatic translation in Loco
This bot uses Anthropic's Messages API to translate many (effectively separate) source strings. Thus it will behave more like a 'traditional' translation API, except with more opportunities to provide meaningful context.
Language models in the Sonnet and Opus series are available.
Loco is not affiliated with Anthropic, and is not charging for access to Claude. You will need your own Anthropic account and API key.
Configure a bot to use Claude
- Navigate to the Bots tab wherever you see the :robot icon: in the Loco dashboard.
- Click "New bot", choose Claude, and enter your Anthropic API key into the first text field.
- Enter a model if you don't want to use the default. (The default may change).
- Save the bot and it's ready to run. See also how to run a translation bot.
Steps for generating an Anthropic API key
- Sign up for an Anthropic account.
- Go to the API keys section and click "Create Key".
- Check you have sufficient credit for your needs in the billing section.
Model compatibility
Your bot will be configured to use claude-sonnet-4-20250514
by default. Models in the "Sonnet" series are smaller, and faster than their siblings in the "Opus" series.
Unless you need extra intelligence for complex translations, this will save you money.
